Public Safety - Fire

Can you have a fire pit in the back yard?

Currently, the City Council has allowed the use of a portable fire pit in a residential area under the following guidelines: the unit must be a commercially manufactured unit that is off the ground (has legs) and has a screen and lid, which must be used in its entirety; the unit may be used to burn wood and/or charcoal for recreational purposes only; the fire pit may not be used closer than 20 feet from any combustible material (i.e. wood deck, fence, building, etc); you must be considerate to your neighbors, if the smoke enters the neighbors house causing a nuisance, a neighbor may complain and the fire will have to be extinguished.
